I’ve made the decision not to post a lot of song lyrics on here because I did that a lot on the old site and I didn’t get the impression that anyone cared.
That being said, if I post lyrics, it’s worth the read. Case in point, Pink’s new song “Stupid Girl”. You need to see the video, google it and you’ll go to a bunch of places where you can watch it. She makes fun of Mary Kate and Ashley, Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton, and Lindsey Lohan. It’s great. There’s even a scene where there are girls in the bathroom of the club talking about how they ate 300 calories today and then they throw up and scream “I will be skinny!” Gross, yes, but a really good shocking way to point out that things in society are getting out of control.
I didn’t post the full lyrics, just my personal favorites.
What happened to the dreams of a girl president?
She’s dancing in the video next to 50 Cent
They travel in packs of two or three
With their itsy bitsy doggies and their teeny-weeny tees
Where, oh where, have the smart people gone?
Oh where, oh where could they be?
Disease’s growing, it’s epidemic
I’m scared that there ain’t a cure
The world believes it and I’m going crazy
I cannot take any more
I’m so glad that I’ll never fit in
That will never be me
Outcasts and girls with ambition
That’s what I wanna see
Disasters all around
World despaired
Their only concern
Will they fuck up my hair?
Baby if I act like that, that guy will call me back
What a paparazzi girl, I don’t wanna be a stupid girl
Baby if I act like that, flipping my blonde hair back
Push up my bra like that, I don’t wanna be a stupid girl

Jen, I hope that you will try to avoid self-censoring your blog. The blog gives us your reflections on life, and it is very interesting. I am in my 40s, and I do not have cable or satellite TV (Horrors!), so I am unfamiliar with a lot of the more current music on MTV. So, I think that the lyrics are fascinating. A few months ago, I saw a high school group walking in downtown Washington, and a teenage girl was wearing a Beatles’ t-shirt. I was happy to see some young people are still listening to the 1960s and 1970s music. I think that your post and the song lyrics are examples of what some see as some young women who act badly to attract men. Ariel Levy wrote a book in 2005 called ‘Female Chauvinist Pigs: Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture”, which addresses this subject, also. It may still be in the bookstores.
